I have had my first introduction to the textile department of the Glen Innes History House! The volunteers have been doing lots of work with the Powerhouse to learn how to identify, archive and conserve textiles. The idea for my project came from attending a workshop day with the Powerhouse at the History House last year and I was blown away by the significance of our own collection. Today the ladies were in the middle of putting together a Glen Innes sports memorabilia exhibit complete with original men's speedo's, women's woolen swimmers, a local Olympians track and field uniform and the 2014 championship rugby jumpers worn by the mighty Elks. Through out my scholarship I will be working closely with the History House textile collection. As a third generation Glen Innes local this is very exciting! The photo above is where the collection is currently kept including textiles, books and typewriters. The building was the old Nurses Quarters for the original Glen Innes Hospital.
