Tamworth Textile Triennial

Working already within the regional arts network, I have been so lucky to have made some wonderful and supportive contacts including Bridget Guthrie, the Director of Tamworth Regional Gallery. Bridget asked me if i wanted to come a long and spend the day meeting the next Textile Triennial curator Glenn Barkley and the artists involved. We spent the morning on a behind the scenes tour of the gallery and learning about the signifigance of their textile collection. The afternoon was spent going through the logistics of installing, touring for two years and what is needed from the arists including bios, photos etc. It was a really informative day and possibly the first time in recent months that I have felt inspired! I will be visiting the Gallery again next year to spend a couple of days with Pam Brown, the manager of the collection to learn how to handle, store and preserve textiles.

The Tamworth Regional Gallery is renowned for our Tamworth Textile Triennial. The Triennial, held every three years, showcases the best of textile art from across the country, attracting artist participation from all states in Australia, wide audiences and critical review. The Triennial also assists to continue the development of our textile collection, as many works are purchased for the Tamworth Regional Gallery’s permanent collection.
